[목회서신] 새로운 가능성을 향해 마음의 문을 여십시오! | Open the Door of Your Heart to New Possibilities!

   믿음은 새로운 가능성의 문을 여는 열쇠입니다. 우리는 쉽게 좌절합니다. 쉽게 무너집니다. 쉽게 포기합니다. 하지만 하나님은 우리에게 새로운 가능성을 향해 마음의 문을 열라고 말씀하십니다. 우리는 성경을 통해 하나님이 어떻게 새로운 가능성의 문을 열어 주시는지를 배울 수 있습니다.

첫째, 새 일을 행하시는 하나님을 믿을 때 새로운 가능성이 열립니다. 하나님은 새 일을 행하시는 분입니다(사 43:19상). 새 일을 행하신다는 것은 새로운 가능성을 열어 주신다는 것입니다. 하나님은 새 역사를 창조하시는 분입니다(렘 33:2). 하나님은 새로운 문을 열어 주시는 분입니다(계 3:8). 하나님은 광야에 길과 사막에 강을 내십니다(사 43:19하). 하나님은 죽은 자를 살리시고, 없는 것을 있는 것처럼 부르십니다(롬 4:19). 우리의 가능성은 우리 안에 거하시는 하나님의 가능성입니다. 하나님께는 능치 못할 일이 없으십니다(창 18:17).

둘째, 고난 중에도 소망을 선택할 때 새로운 가능성이 열립니다. 고난은 정말 놀라운 신비입니다. 요셉이 애굽에 끌려갈 때 고난의 수레를 타고 갔습니다. 꿈꾸는 요셉을 기다렸던 것은 고난이었습니다. 그런데 바로 그 고난이 그의 꿈을 성취하는 새로운 가능성의 문을 열어 주었습니다. 그런 까닭에 성경은 여러 가지 시험을 만나거든 기쁘게 여기라고 말씀합니다(약 1:2). 고난 중에도 절망이 아닌 소망을 선택해야 합니다. 믿음으로 산다는 것은 절망의 언덕에 소망의 집을 짓는 것입니다. 십자가의 고난을 통해 부활의 문이 열렸습니다. 정말 놀랍지 않습니까? 십자가의 고난이 없었다면 부활의 문이 열리지 않았을 것입니다. 날마다 소망을 선택하십시오. 날마다 하나님께 소망을 두십시오. “야곱의 하나님을 자기의 도움으로 삼으며 여호와 자기 하나님에게 자기의 소망을 두는 자는 복이 있도다”(시 146:5).

셋째, 작은 변화를 시도할 때 새로운 가능성이 열립니다. 날마다 작은 변화를 시도해 보십시오. 하나님은 작은 것 속에 무한한 가능성을 담아 두셨습니다. 작은 씨앗 속에 큰 참나무가 담겨 있습니다. 작은 씨앗 속에 거대한 숲이 담겨 있습니다. 작은 겨자씨만 한 믿음 속에 산을 움직이는 능력이 담겨 있습니다(마 17:20).

예수님은 작은 것에 충성하는 것을 소중히 여깁니다(마 25:21). 작은 한 걸음을 내딛는 것이 얼마나 놀라운 변화를 창조하는지를 압니다. 아브라함이 갈 바를 알지 못하고 하나님의 말씀에 순종하여 갈대아 우르를 떠났습니다(히 11:8). 그 한 걸음이 구속의 역사를 만들었습니다. 작은 격려, 작은 칭찬, 작은 미소, 작은 헌신, 작은 섬김이 놀라운 변화를 만들어냅니다.

왜 작은 것이 중요할까요? 작은 것 속에 무한한 가능성의 씨앗이 담겨 있기 때문입니다. 사르밧 과부가 엘리야를 위해 준비한 작은 떡 한 조각 속에 3년 6개월의 음식이 담겨 있었습니다. 어린 소년이 예수님께 바친 오병이어 속에 수많은 사람을 먹일 수 있는 음식이 담겨 있었습니다.

12년 동안 혈루증으로 고생하던 여인이, 믿음으로 예수님의 겉옷 자락을 한번 만짐으로 병이 나았습니다(마 9:20-22). 때로는 짧은 기도가 엄청난 역사를 창조합니다. 리브가가 잉태하지 못할 때 이삭이 짧은 기도를 드렸습니다(창 25:21). 하나님이 리브가의 태를 열어 주셨습니다. 그녀가 낳은 야곱이 이스라엘의 12지파를 형성했습니다. 야곱의 아들 중의 하나인 유다의 후손으로 예수님이 오셨습니다.

넷째, 감사할 때 새로운 가능성이 열립니다. 감사는 그동안 하나님께 받은 복을 세어 보는 것입니다. 감사는 잃어버린 것보다 아직 남아 있는 것을 세어 보는 것입니다. 우리는 상실한 것만 바라보다가 그동안 받은 은혜를 망각할 때가 많습니다. 하지만 우리가 감사하기 시작할 때 상실한 것보다 그동안 받은 은혜에 초점을 맞추게 됩니다. 또한 아직도 남아 있는 것에 초점을 맞추게 됩니다. 무엇보다 아직도 나와 함께 하시는 하나님께 초점을 맞추게 됩니다.

절망적인 환경에서 믿음으로 감사할 때 상상할 수 없는 기적을 경험하게 됩니다. 다니엘은 기도하면 사자 굴에 던져지는 것을 알았습니다. 하지만 그는 전에 하던 대로 하루에 세 번 무릎을 꿇고 기도하며 하나님께 감사했습니다(단 6:10). 그가 드린 감사 기도는 이해가 되지 않습니다. 그 이유는 그가 기도하면 사자 굴에 던짐을 받아 죽게 되어 있기 때문입니다. 하지만 감사 기도의 열매는 상상을 초월했습니다. 하나님은 그의 감사 기도를 들으시고, 천사를 보내어 사자들의 입을 막으셨습니다(단 6:22). 다니엘은 감사 때문에 역전의 은혜를 경험했습니다.

감사는 절망의 해독제입니다. 감사는 기적을 창조합니다. 예수님은 기적을 행하시기 전에 감사 기도를 드리셨습니다. 감사하면 새로운 문이 열립니다. 새로운 기회가 찾아옵니다. 새해 시작과 함께 안팎으로 어려운 일이 많습니다. 그래도 우리는 새로운 가능성을 향해 마음의 문을 열어야 합니다. 하나님은 무너진 성벽을 다시 세우시는 분입니다. 하나님은 홍해에 길을 내신 분입니다. 하나님이 예비하신 새로운 가능성을 향해 마음을 열고 믿음으로 전진하시길 빕니다.

Open the Door of Your Heart to New Possibilities!

   Faith is the key that opens the door to new possibilities. We often find ourselves easily discouraged, quick to falter, and prone to giving up. Yet, God calls us to open the door of our hearts to new possibilities. Through the Scriptures, we can learn how God opens doors to new opportunities and leads us into His extraordinary plans.

First, new possibilities arise when we trust in God who does new things. God is the One who does new things (Isaiah 43:19a). To say that God does new things means He opens the door to new possibilities. He is the Creator of new works and histories (Jeremiah 33:2). He opens doors no one can shut (Revelation 3:8). God makes a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland (Isaiah 43:19b). He gives life to the dead and calls into being things that are not (Romans 4:17). Our possibilities are rooted in the possibilities of God who dwells within us, for nothing is impossible with Him (Genesis 18:14).

Second, new possibilities arise when we choose hope in the midst of suffering. Suffering is a profound mystery. When Joseph was taken to Egypt, he rode on the chariot of suffering. His journey as a dreamer was marked by hardships, but it was those very hardships that opened the door to fulfilling his dreams. That is why the Bible says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds” (James 1:2). Even in suffering, we must choose hope over despair. Living by faith means building a house of hope on the hill of despair. The door to resurrection was opened through the suffering of the cross. Isn’t it remarkable? Without the suffering of the cross, there would have been no resurrection. Choose hope daily. Place your hope in God every day. “Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God” (Psalm 146:5).

Third, new possibilities arise when we take small steps of change. Try small steps of change each day. God has embedded infinite potential in small things. A tiny seed contains a mighty oak tree. A small mustard seed of faith can move mountains (Matthew 17:20).

Jesus valued faithfulness in small things (Matthew 25:21). Taking a single small step can create astonishing changes. Abraham obeyed God and left Ur of the Chaldeans without knowing where he was going (Hebrews 11:8). That single step initiated the history of redemption. Small acts of encouragement, kindness, smiles, devotion, and service can lead to remarkable transformation.

Why are small things so important? Because within them lies the seed of infinite potential. A widow’s small offering of bread to Elijah sustained her household for three and a half years. A young boy’s five loaves and two fish fed thousands when offered to Jesus.

A woman suffering from bleeding for 12 years was healed by simply touching the hem of Jesus’ garment in faith (Matthew 9:20-22). Short prayers can sometimes lead to incredible works of God. When Rebekah was barren, Isaac prayed briefly, and God opened her womb (Genesis 25:21). From her came Jacob, who fathered the 12 tribes of Israel, and ultimately, through Judah’s lineage, Jesus was born.

Fourth, new possibilities arise when we give thanks. Thanksgiving is counting the blessings God has already given. It shifts our focus from what we’ve lost to what we still have. Often, we forget God’s grace because we fixate on our losses. But when we begin to give thanks, our perspective changes to focus on God’s abundant provision and His presence with us.

Giving thanks in desperate circumstances can lead to unimaginable miracles. Daniel knew that praying would lead him to the lion’s den, yet he continued to kneel three times a day, giving thanks to God (Daniel 6:10). His prayer of thanksgiving seemed irrational, but it brought extraordinary results. God shut the mouths of the lions (Daniel 6:22), and Daniel experienced God’s reversal of circumstances through his gratitude.

Thanksgiving is the antidote to despair and the catalyst for miracles. Jesus gave thanks before performing miracles, opening the way for the impossible to become possible. When we give thanks, doors to new opportunities and blessings open. As we step into this new year, we face challenges both within and without. Yet, God calls us to open the door of our hearts to new possibilities. God rebuilds what has been broken and makes a way through the seas. I pray that you open your heart to the new possibilities God has prepared and move forward in faith.
